Narrative Assessment: Ameerah and Writing

Learner: Ameerah
Area:Writing Level 2
Date: 12.11.18 
In Writing, we have been recounting our experiences. A recount is retelling a learner's experience from their own point of view. We have been learning to add in detail by using adjectives, verbs, feelings and emotions in our writing. Our hapu have been working hard to include at least three different words to paint a better picture for our audience.


Ameerah is able to build sentences into paragraphs. She has been learning to add more detail and ideas into her writing. Ameerah is beginning to order her ideas carefully into paragraphs.
She is developing her curiosity by asking questions and is slowly making connections by using ideas discussed in a larger group. Ameerah collaborates with others by sharing her ideas in discussions. She is beginning to think carefully about her ideas and the audience she is writing for.

Narrative Assessment: Ameerah and Maths

Learner: Ameerah
Area: Maths Level 2
Date: 20.09.18 
In Maths, we have been learning about Fractions. We know that fractions are a part or piece of a whole. We have been learning to identify fractions of shapes and numbers. When trying to solve fractions of numbers, we have been using our knowledge of multiplication and division to justify our answers.


Ameerah is developing her capabilities to solve fraction problems using her knowledge of multiplication and division facts. She is beginning to work collaboratively and listen carefully to others sharing their ideas. During small group teaching, Ameerah will ask questions when she is unsure about something. She is beginning to solve harder problems using what she knows about basic fractions.

Narrative: Ameerah and her Art

UC: Share ideas about how and why their own and others' works are made and their purpose, value and context

DI: Explore a variety of materials and tools and discover elements and selected principles

In Art our learners have been learning different techniques and art works from different areas. With MrMorrow and in alphabet groups, learners have been looking at designing and colouring their own piece to a big puzzle. 


In this activity Amerah is learning to develop her capabilities in designing and colouring. She develops her curiosity by listening carefully to the instructions from the learning coaches and thinks carefully about her ideas. Ameerah made connections by using patterns and colours from her other art experiences.

Narrative: Ameerah's Writing

In Writing, we have been learning to plan our writing carefully and build sentences into paragraphs. We know that paragraphs have one main idea and the following sentences add more detail or ideas to the main idea and previous sentences.



Ameerah is beginning to build sentences into paragraphs. She is still learning to add more detail and ideas into her writing. Ameerah is also still learning to order her ideas carefully into paragraphs.
She is developing her curiosity by asking questions and is slowly making connections by using ideas discussed in a larger group. Ameerah is beginning to think carefully about her ideas and the audience she is writing for.

In Writing, we have been learning to use figurative language like: personification and similes to create more complex ideas. We have been learning to draw a picture in our readers mind, so they understand what we are trying to share.

Maths: Ameerah and Problem Solving

Area: Maths Level 2

In Maths, as part of Problem Solving we have put our learners into groups of four. As learning coaches, we have placed them into mixed abilities for the purposes of collaborating and based on the Key Competencies. Problem solving in maths requires our learners to work in a smaller group to solve word number problems. 

Ameerah has been working with other learners to develop her collaborative skills. She shows her capabilities by using materials and sharing her ideas within her group. Ameerah is beginning to use her curiosity by asking questions and making connections with her prior knowledge to help her during these sessions.

Art: Ameerah and Origami

Learner: Ameerah
Area: Art - Visual Arts Level 2 
Date: 20.02.18 
For Art during iExperience, the learners had an opportunity to create different shapes using the folding technique of origami. Origami is the art of paper folding often associated with Japanese culture.

Ameerah has been practicing her capability by listening carefully to and following instructions. She showed curiosity by asking questions if she was not sure. Ameerah was able to work collaboratively with others by sharing her ideas and helping others when asked. She is beginning to make connections and use techniques already learned to help her with her learning.
